Academic Paul Wells from Loughborough University draws a parallel between orthodox animated cartoons and the comic strip, ‘Significantly, these kinds of films are usually storyboarded first, after the fashion of a comic strip (and thus its linear mode of storytelling), and animated when synchronised to a pre-recorded soundtrack.’
